In an attempt to enhance the standard of educational system, a very wonderful announcement for all the engineering aspirants is that the government is planning to conduct the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains thrice a year. The initiative will help the candidates to crack the toughest engineering exam in any one of the three attempts.

The candidates need not wait for the next year if they fail to qualify the examination in the first attempt.

 Key higlishts of the proposed Plan

1. The plan of the government is to hold JEE (Mains) in December, February and April.
2. The candidates can appear for the test thrice, and the highest score among the three attempts will be taken into consideration during the admission process. 
3. Tthe students aspiring to get admission seats for B.Tech programmes at IITs, NITs and other centrally funded institutions will be confident of the same. It will also give them enough preparation time for them to crack the examination.

“To ensure greater transparency and avoid instances of paper leak, the ministry is planning to conduct examinations through NTS on an online mode,” said a senior official in the human resource development ministry. This will ensure that a candidate is able to give his/her best if there are specific testing windows,” said Soumitra Roy of Prometric India, a global agency that had conducted tests such as CAT for premier business schools.

“This must be done provided there is adequate physical and technical infrastructure in a country like India with different demographics.”

To ensure students from rural areas don’t face obstacles in taking the online exam, NTS will help prepare them with through round-the-clock call centre support.

“NTS will establish an online testing mechanism which will be able to conduct online tests for at least 1 million students at a time with suitable systems for proctoring, instant display of marks and preparation of the merit list,” an official said.

National Testing Service (NTS) which has been proposed by the government in the annual budget will hold JEE (Main) examination in online mode from the next academic session. One of the officials revealed that if a student fails in one attempt, he/she need not wait for an entire year to prepare for the examination. However, through this initiative, if a student fails to qualify the exam in the first attempt, he/she will get adequate time to identify the weak areas and prepare effectively for the next attempt without wasting a whole year.
