According to sources, IIT is planning on considering BITS Pilani to be a part of counseling process which is conducted by JoSAA for admitting students to IITs or NITs. The counseling will be held in the month of June.

The plan for such merger is done considering the fact that many students opt for seats in IIT and in BITS and then one seat goes vacant. Students do this under the condition where they get a branch of their choice at BITS after not getting the desired seat in IIT counseling.

There isn’t any official confirmation regarding the same but even if BITS Pilani agrees to be a part of the counseling process, the students who can opt for a seat in BITS will be considered on his/her BITSAT 2018 score.

Top students who clear JEE Main, around 2.25 lakh, can appear for JEE Advanced and depend on their merit list they can reserve their seat at respective IITs or NITs.

An NIT Director said, in the past, many private colleges have participated in the counseling process by JoSAA. This increases the college’s marketing policy as the admission depends on JEE score. 

Another news says that MHRD Ministry will issue a report providing the guidelines for including any private institute in the common counseling process.
